Do you know someone who's a graduate of the National University of Singapore? If you, or someone close to you, are an NUS Alumni, now's a good time to hit the books and go back to school to live and breathe the lifelong learning mantra because it's always a good idea to better yourself and increase your skills.
In case you haven't been keeping up with local current affairs because you've been too busy following global politics news, NUS Alumni have the privileged opportunity to study up to two modules over a 3-year period from this August to 30 July 2020. Here, we at GET.com will show you why it may be a good idea to go back to school.
Why You Should Consider Going Back To School
NUS' School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (SCALE) will be letting NUS Alumni pick from an assortment of modules to help them further grow their skills and knowledge. Why is this an opportunity that I am giving some serious thought to even though I graduated from there in 2014?
Well, for starters, it's completely free of charge for AY 2017/2018! What's more, zero tuition fees will be charged for AY 2018/2019 and AY 2019/2020; all you need to pay for each semester is the Student Services Fee, currently priced at $261.85, GST included. How much are you going to be saving? Each module costs approximately $3,000 to $3,500. Go figure.
It doesn't matter whether you are 25 years old like me, or 75 years old. So long as you are an NUS Alumni, you can apply to embark on your lifelong learning journey. Just make sure that you can attend the course(s) that you apply for as classes may be offered during the night or day. You need to check the module listing for such information.
Which Modules Are Available At The Moment?
NUS is opening 140 modules to NUS Alumni from 2017 to 2020. For Semester 1 of AY 2017/2018 that starts in August 2017, you can find modules the likes of PP5188 - Social Entreprenuership, DSC1704 - Decision Analytics using Spreadsheets, ACC3605 - Taxation, CS4239 - Software Security and more. Click here to take a look at the modules offered for Sem1 and here to check out what modules will be offered for Sem2 of AY 2017/2018.
Before you get all psyched to apply right away, bear in mind that certain modules have no entry pre-requisites at all while others may require that you have a background in the topic or have read certain (or equivalent) modules. Others may require that you hold a Bachelor degree in that particular area of specialisation.
When applying, it is important that you include all information on your academic qualifications along with your work experience. The faculty that offers the particular module in question will assess applicants' application holistically.
When And How To Apply?
Application for study in Sem1 is open right now in the month of May, whereas application for Sem2 opens in October. There is no application fee. Everything can be done online through the NUS Online Application Portal. You have until May 31 to send in your application if you're looking to go back to school asap.
You can select a maximum of 5 modules and rank them in order of preference when you are applying, but you'll only be offered admission to 1 module each semester if your application is successful.
More Information For You
Have a look at NUS' FAQ page for more information. While modules offered to Alumni through this platform won't bag you another degree upon conclusion of the courses, you are free to apply for an official academic transcript at the end of your semester as memorabilia or proof that you've completed said module, whichever way you prefer to look at it.
