Earn extra SMART$. You will earn double SMART$ when you make purchases at SMART$ merchants and use this JCB card to pay. UOB's SMART$ programme is a rewards programme that lets you earn up to 10% rebates at over 400 participating outlets, such as City Tours, Capitol Optical, Crocodile, Metro, Wan Yang, Ogawa, EpiCentre, Hard Rock Café, Pasarbella, and Cathay Cineplexes.

Enjoy 6% cash rebate at Isetan, Meidi-Ya, Tokyu Hands, UNIQLO and other Japanese merchants. If you like Japanese goods, this is a benefit that you will definitely enjoy. When you use this card to buy your clothes, food or other things at Isetan, Meidi-Ya, Tokyu Hands, UNIQLO, Ichiban Boshi, Ichiban Sushi, Kuriya Dining, Kuriya Japanese Market and Sushi Tei merchants in Singapore, you will enjoy 6% rebate on your purchases. There is a $300 minimum spend per calendar month to earn the 6% rebate or get 3% rebate with no minimum spend.

Earn 0.3% cash rebate on all other spending. When you use this card to make other purchases, be it a cup of coffee, a toy for your baby, groceries for your family, petrol, or any other purchase, you will earn 0.3% cash rebate. Keep in mind some of the card transactions will not be eligible for cash rebate. First-year annual fee waiver. The annual fee is S$64.20 annual fee, waived 1 year. And $64.20 is quite low compared with many other credit cards. The first supplementary card is also free for life!

Only $30,000 annual income required. You can apply for this card if you make $30,000 or more each year. Good news for foreigners! As long as you make $40,000 or more a year, you can apply for this card too. Many other credit cards require a minimum annual income of $60,000 for foreigners.

Here's some good news for Japanese expats: If you are a Japanese national living in Singapore and make just $30,000 or more each year, you are eligible to apply for this card.

Our Least Favourite Things About UOB JCB Platinum Card

There's a cap on cash rebate. The maximum cash rebate you can earn, including the cash rebates you earn at the Japanese chains, cash rebates at departmental stores and on other spending, is capped at $50 per month.

UOB JCB Platinum Card will obviously have an immediate appeal if you shop at participating Japanese stores or travel to Japan frequently on business or holidays. But the real wow factor of this card is that it lets you earn double SMART$ at locations that participate in the SMART$ programme. That makes this one of the best cards in Singapore for earning SMART$ fast. On top of that, you earn 0.3% cash rebate on your other card spending.

So even if you don't spend at Isetan, Meidi-Ya, Tokyu Hands, UNIQLO, Ichiban Boshi, Ichiban Sushi, Kuriya Dining, Kuriya Japanese Market or Sushi Tei to take advantage of the 0.3% rebate, you can still get good rewards for your local shopping.

You also get complimentary access to JCB Plaza Lounges at airports around the world, not just in Japan. If you do travel to Japan, you can enjoy a whole slew of privileges, including special rates for tours in Japan and travel assistance though a dedicated hotline. JCB is also widely accepted in Japan, so you won't have much difficulty using your card to pay.

If you want to earn rebates at popular stores throughout Singapore, but prefer a general rewards credit card instead of JCB, then Citibank Rewards Card VISA may be a good alternative. It lets you earn 10 points per $1 spent on shopping and all your online purchases (except travel-related purchases) and you also can get up to 10% Citi Rebate at over 300 locations, including Starbucks, Burger King, Sheng Siong Supermarket, Shell stations and many others.
