|Our Least Favourite||High minimum annual income requirement|
|Our Verdict||Excellent travel credit card with many attractive privileges|
UOB PRVI Miles Visa Card is a powerful (if somewhat exclusive) miles credit card from UOB. The first thing that caught our attention is the high rate of miles earned on purchases in Singapore. Unless you work outside of Singapore and come home on the odd weekend, there's a good chance you spend a fair bit more at home than you do overseas every year.
But there is also the high rate of miles earned for purchases you make outside of Singapore, plus the solid travel insurance and UOB privileges, and all of these make this a card worth checking out. On closer inspection though, costs like the $256.80 annual fee (waved first year) and the high income requirements become apparent.
So do the high miles you earn and the card benefits justify the hefty fee you pay to add this card to your wallet? We've decided to go through the benefits, look at the negatives and compare this card to other top travel credit cards in Singapore to see how it measures up.

Things We Like About UOB PRVI Miles Visa Card
You earn 2.4 miles for each $1 you spend overseas. You earn UNI$6 for every $5 that you spend, which when translated into miles works out to 2.4 miles per $1 or purchases. You earn this higher rate of miles when you are outside of Singapore and make purchases in a foreign currency (not Singapore dollars). Shopping online from a store outside of Singapore, for example, will not earn the higher points.
You earn 1.4 miles for each $1 you spend locally. Now this is where UOB PRVI Miles Visa Card really becomes interesting. You earn 1.4 miles for every $1 that you spend in Singapore (UNI$3.5 for every $5), which is one of the highest rates of miles for local spending you can get these days. That makes this a choice card if you spend most of your time in Singapore and want to be rewarded with miles towards free flights, because you will earn a high rate of miles on all your local spending.
You earn as much as 6 miles per $1 on UOB Travel airline bookings. UOB Travel is the bank's own travel service, ans you can earn 6 points for each 1 dollar you spend on select flights booked through this service. Here again, this isn't a permanent offer, so don't get the card just for this. Still, it's a nice perk which can benefit you if you use UOB Travel. If you fly with any of these airlines, there's a good chance that your airline ticket purchase through UOB Travel will be eligible: British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways, All Nippon Airways, Emirates, Etihad, Qantas and United Airlines.
You can redeem miles for flights, travel packages or cashback. This card gives you much more freedom than frequent flyer credit cards and some other miles cards. You can choose to transfer your miles to over 40 airline frequent flyer programmes, or redeem miles for travel packages. If you don't end using your miles for travel, you can even redeem your air miles for vouchers, cashback or anything you like from UOB's rewards programme, which is one of our 3 Best Credit Card Rewards Programmes in Singapore!
You get dedicated hotline assistance. The UOB PRVI Travel Butler is a travel concierge service what can handle your travel arrangements, including flight and hotel bookings, plus insurance, car rental booking services, visa inquiries and redemption of your air miles for travel packages.
You get complimentary personal accident and travel inconvenience insurance. One big benefit of using this card to pay for travel bookings is that you get travel insurance for free. That means, depending on the coverage you want, you may not need to get an extra travel insurance policy when you go on a trip. That saves you money.
- Travel Personal Accident Insurance. Up to $1,000,000 when you book your travel and pay with this card.
- Connecting Flight delays of 4 hours or more. Up to $200 of your extra expenses (food, drinks, lounge access) may be covered if your flight or other common carrier trip is delayed.
- Delayed luggage (6 hours or more). If your luggage doesn't arrive on time, you can claim up to $200 in compensation.
- Loss of luggage. You can get up to $400 if your luggage is lost by an airline or other common carrier.
The annual fee is waived the first year. This card has a $256.80 annual fee (waved first year), so you can enjoy 1 year of miles earning for free.
You also get Visa perks. This Visa version of the card has a few special privileges that you don't get with the Amex or MasterCard versions. For example, this year Golden Village is gives you 4 movie tickets for the price of 3 when you pay with Visa checkout. You can also get a discount of up to 28% when you book the exclusive Gold Class Infinite Experience Package for 2 at Golden Village. When you stay at a hotel in The Visa Luxury Hotel Collection you get upgrades and special privileges at over 900 prestigious hotels (Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, Park Hyatt, Mandarin Oriental, and many more).
Our Least Favorite Things About The UOB PRVI Miles Visa Card
You pay a $25 fee to transfer miles to a frequent flyer programme. Every time you convert your UNI$ to actual air miles with one of the partner airlines, you will be charged a $25 conversion fee. That isn't a trainsmash, but it does take a bite out of the savings you get by earning miles.
The annual fee is high. You pay quite a bit more for this card than you do for some other top miles credit cards, so you will only get the most out of this UOB card if you spend at least $50,000 or more with it each year, because the 20,000 mile bonus you earn when you do will offset the $256.80 annual fee (waved first year).
It has a high annual income requirement. To apply for this card, you need to make at least $80,000 a year. If you earn that much, then this card could definitely work well for you. If not, you'll be glad to know that the annual income requirements for some other good travel credit cards is as low as $30,000 per year.
No complimentary access to VIP airport lounges. Many travel credit cards give you complimentary access to VIP airport lounges and even limousine services. But this card does not provide you with these benefits. The American Express version of this card gives you free limousine rides to Changi Airport, but you don't get that privilege with this Visa card.

UOB PRVI Miles Visa Card is an excellent travel credit card with many attractive privileges. This card lets you earn air miles fast and easily on both local and overseas purchases, and gives you good travel insurance coverage. Still, for the price, it would have been nice to see complimentary airport lounge access added as a benefit, since several other banks give you that perk.
The fact is, this card is really all about miles, and it's good at what it does. The miles rate you earn is one of the highest around.
We wholeheartedly recommend UOB PRVI Miles Visa Card to big earners and spenders looking to max out their miles earning in Singapore and abroad.
